The coolest Viola Lee Blues I've heard recently (haven't replayed the one you suggest yet)
is actually a studio take, it's on the remastered 1st GD album, a bonus track referred to as the VLB edited version.

But listen to it closely, it's not the same version as the last track on the (original) 1st album, at all - imho the shorter edit studio version has some real good energy...

if there's a more complete (as in, complete) version of this edit version, wow, let that come out some day.

say what one will about reissues, the remastered debut is mind-blowingly excellent to these ears.

. . . and the NEXT bonus track on the CD is a favorite, a standout Viola Lee from Rio Nido that clocks in at almost 23 minutes!

yeah! The 9-3-67 Viola Lee at Russian River is missing the beginning but the cd bonus track has the ending complete, just a few seconds longer than the three 22:49 versions on LMA. http://www.archive.org/details/gd1967-09-03.sbd.oconnell-clevenger.6180.sbeok.shnf
